The UN proves and Briefing

The article that have given is The UN proves and Briefing. Firstly the UN proves story us about how the situation when UN secretary general visited the Zionist state and conferred with its foreign minister. From this article, we know that UN afraid to make action towards Zionist cruelty. This article comes from Harakah date 29th January 2009 and it comes from a person who only introduce as name Disgusted from Kuala Lumpur and the article is written especially for politician and also to public who always follow the Gaza issue. Besides, the purpose of the article is to inform the reader about the UN’s responsibility and how the misused the power. The effect of the readers when read this article, they realize that Zionist is cruel.

The second article is about one slot in Time which is Briefing slot. The story here about accident that happened in Guantanamo Bay. This accident happened on Dec.8 when an Arabic man name Khalid Sheikh Mohammed refused to do trial at this court because he did not trust with the fairness court. Because of that he is willing to do pleading guilty. The article is comes from TIME newspaper, December 22, 2008 and it is written by Chris Maluszynski. Besides, the article is written for those that involved in law field. The language is also hard to understand because the writer uses jargon. Only peoples who involved in law can know the meaning very well.

For me, both articles are hard to understand because they used jargon. For the first the use politic language and the second is the writer use law language. But, it is our 3 and 4 portfolio. We must to that even though it is very difficult to understand.

week 5

At this week we learned about positioning based on Please; let me go to your school article. Today Miss Syida explains briefly about this as last week we can’t manage to do this because run of time. We also learned argument and evidence: What is the argument and what evidence support it? based on the article entitled Body Language that Speaks to Muggers. From this article also we go through to perspective.

It is our turn to make the presentation this week with the topic “Type of exposition”. Based on dictionary exposition means an account and explanation. Exposition can divide by two which is hortatory exposition and analytical exposition. Hortatory means persuade to which is to give some action to what they read. Actually hortatory can be found at newspaper, speech and magazine. Analytical exposition means persuade that and for the clear meaning it is some judgment is correct and it can be found regularly in essay. The function of exposition is to explain and interpret. Besides, there are 4 main ways to show reasoning in exposition such as verb, preposition, conjunction and noun. Without this ways we can’t make a clear exposition.

Liyana explain us about personality in exposition with exposition and metaphor. Personality can be expressed through attitude and feelings. For the hortatory there have feeling while for analytical don’t. But both of them have attitude to express. Exposition and metaphor can be seen when they said government is like parents because government need to handle a lots of things. However, the metaphor is not directly seen in the text.

I hope both of us make a good presentation and all the friends understand about it.

week 4

This week we discuss about 3 topics and we started the presentation with reading 4.4, “STASTICS”. Statistics means to inform about any phenomenon or activity expressed in rhetorical form. The importance of statistic in human affair is obvious from our tendency to associate ‘facts’ closely with ‘figures’. Besides there have 4 common statistic slips which is unqualified averages, fallacious sampling, percentages unaccompanied by actual numbers and misleading presentation. This topic presented by Fahmy and Subhi.

After that, we continued the presentation again with reading 4.3 “WHAT IS EVIDENCE”. It is presented by Fazlihazwah and Bazilah who is very fastest person in talking.Oh God!! It’s really hard for me to catch up all the words that they saying until Miss Syida ask them to talk more slowly. For the first, they discuss about evidence’s mean. Evidence means the fact, objects that make you believe something is true while the arguments means a reasons or set of reasons that somebody uses to shown that something is true. There also have two types of evidence such as tangible evidence eye witness evidence. To make this topic more clearly, both of them provide and tell us the story about the famous case of kidnapping of the infant son of Charles Lindbergh. By this story, we can identify what is evidence, tangible evidence and eye witness evidence. I would like to thank to Fazli and Bazilah because their explanation make me understand this topic very well. As conclusion, “Don’t ever trust to what you heard, see and read.”

For the last presentation is reading 4.5, “CROOKED AND FALLICIOUS THINKING”. Noor and P-nut have done a good job in this presentation. One of the most common forms of fallacious and crooked thinking is the use of the transfer device. However, a crooked thinker may give the impression that he is saying something meaningful and logical when he is in fact not proving anything. He is simply drawing his conclusion from a premise which is it dependent on what is asserted in the conclusion. For the false analogy, it is used to support an argument in fact prove nothing. Equivocation is fallacy arises because some of the words used in argument maybe ambiguous. To sum up, crooked and fallacious thinking is something interesting to discuss.

Last but no least, this week we learn briefly to make a correct positioning in our coming portfolio.

critical literacy

Hi….welcome to the critical literacy site!!! This is my first blog for this subject. It’s all about what I have learned in Critical Literacy subject. My lecturer, who teaches me in this subject, is Miss Syida. From her, we learned and free to ask anything to her about this subject. “What we see something, we can’t trust only based on the picture. It’s must be something beside the picture”, and absolutely it is about Critical Literacy subject.

For the 1st week, we learned about news entitled “Convicted Killer back at work”. This news is about a nurse also a convicted killer back at work the convicted killer is a woman, name Deborah Perry who killed her colleague Yvonne Gilford in Dhahran Hospital in December 1996 at Saudi Arabia. However, she back at work after she pay some money to the victim’s family. Based on this new, we need to do a portfolio. The folio must to do based on 10 aspects that already given. It’s seemed what we learned in Sem 2 in ITTL subject.

For the 2nd week, we learned about Rules and Regulations. This topic presented by Fatimah’s group. Actually this week we supposedly to learn about stories and fact. But, there have problems with the first group and need to continue with second group. From what I understand with the presentation, rules mean instructions for behaving in ways which will bring about an intended. Rules are categories under imperative and declarative. Imperative mean give command and talk serious for example I order ‘you’. Declarative mean sound more polite and formal for example I order ‘parent’. Regulations mean a rule that must be obeyed. It made according to official rules. Regulation also has been drawn up primarily to create the atmosphere of a community which authority is absolute it covert and which individual action is discouraged, quiet and stasis enjoy.

After this presentation, Miss Syida ask we to marking the portfolio that have done our friends. We learned how to give marks to the portfolio based on the marking schemes. It’s quiet interesting because we can share and know about other’s view on according to the news that we already learned in 1st week. One thing that sure everyone has different view!!
